It’s pronounced ‘Yokim’
I’m Jochem Voogt, a boatbuilder of Dutch descent. I moved to the UK in the late nineties, and after a stint in IT for the gas industry, I retrained in traditional boatbuilding in Lowestoft from 2003 – 2006. The ocean and board sports have always inspired me, so when the opportunity arose to combine work and my passion, I did not hesitate. I started NOVOBOATS in 2011, setting up shop in the picturesque Southwold Harbour in Suffolk. Initially specialising in traditional boat building, NOVOBOATS has since diversified into making furniture and boards for watersports as well.
Building new boats from stem to stern using time-honoured methods, and UK grown natural timbers, we also preserve traditional manufacturing skills and techniques, offering running maintenance and refurbishment of older vessels.
With its own history, notches and nail holes, reclaimed wood furniture feels rich and exquisite, and looks great. Beyond its aesthetic appeal and character, reclaimed timber is also conscientious and kinder to the environment.
Crafting a unique, beautiful and long lasting board out of wood is as satisfying and rewarding as owning one. An altogether different experience to a mass produced board, they are stylish and classic.
